Tech My Baby: On Toxic Tech Bros and the sidelining of mothers.
Pronatalism, Perfect Babies and the marginalization of Mothers.
After parading their rancid male toxicity around before women, Tech Bros got worried that they may not find any to carry their children. Weighing heavily upon them was the possibility of an end of human civilization just when they could see themselves on top of it. Genealogically descended from incels ( the involuntarily celibate men who were their earlier editions) Tech Bros felt the need to advertise their virility;the fecund Elon Musk being and his 13 children being a case in point. Thus inspire, Tech Bros signed on to the idea that their siring of large numbers of children is essential to saving human civilization. In the Muskverse this act of Tech Bro Saviordom must be lived out as the project of seeding the world with as much of his genetic material as possible. Lesser Tech Bros may adopt a more limited agenda- but also one fueled by the mad mix of white supremacy, enormous fortunes and repugnant) grandiosity.
It is just this that has led to the Tech bromance with the world of pronatalists-people who seek to increase the birthrate. Silicon Valley’s anxieties about the collapse of human civilization have led them to imagine the intentional production of as many babies as possible as a solution to their anxieties and a salve to their misogyny.. Within the Christian Right in the United States, the pronatalist movement has been advocating for the proliferation of white christian babies for some time. In 2023 they -along with a slew of Tech Bros held a conference whose intent was to bring together likeminded evangelists of white fecundity at the nothing-to-silicon-valley cost of $1000 a pop. NatalCon 2023 turned out to be such a runaway success that at Natalcon 2025-held this March the prices had gone up to $10,000 unless you had purchased your ticket well in advance. One item on the agenda-a dating event that featured white pronatalist singles and an already present pastor to officiate weddings right away -so that the couple could then get on with the task of seeding wombs right away.
TechBros wishing to self replicate s in large numbers and Christian pro natalists who similarly want many children are separated by one major issue. Pro natalists with decidedly Christian agendas frown on some of the tactics that do not faze the Silicon Valley contingent. Among the bones of contention are the use of reproductive technologies to create, screen and produce babies.Christian pronatalists are opposed to IVF, genetic screenings, selective abortions etc Both want perfect white babies that rule the Earth but are divided as to how to get to this goal.
Not so for the rest less Christian ones. One couple-influencers from Pennsylvania who spoke at NatalCon 2025 are using preimplantation genetic testing of embryos (PGT-P) . Simone and Michael Collins-who identify as proudly autistic-say that they don’t screen for autism related traits. They do admit, however, to select for !Q and deselect genetic traits to what they refer to as “mental health related stuff”. All this, they allege is toward their goal of achieving “low effort parenting” so they can have a large number of children.
The Silicon Valley set. such as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, 23andme CEO Anne Wojcicki and entrepreneur Peter Thiel have all put their money behind fertilitech companies such as Gattaca Genomics, Genomic Prediction and Orchid Health. These companies promise to tell prospective parents how to “mitigate more risks” and capitalize on “life’s potential.” They offer to screen embryos for multigene conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and depression. “It’s gonna become insane not to screen for these things,” the founder and CEO of Orchid has said.
It is an open question whether the Silicon Valley quest for perfect babies is going to be able to silence the strident Christian right which wants white nationalist Christian babies that may or may not have diabetes. Imperfect babies have in their anti-reporductive choice parlance been created by God and whose intended imperfections are not to be messed with through genetic selection. This sort of narrative has valorized parents who refuse to have abortions even when there are known genetic abormalities and made those who choose otherwise to be cruel ( and murderous) parents.
In the long run it appears that Tech Bros will likely have little sympathy for this faith based version of pronatalism. The perfect TechBabies that they envision will not only be selected for high IQ and low procilivity to genetic illnesses, they will likely not require women at all. Eggs can likely be procured from genetically perfect donors and wombs can be hired via surrogates. The resultant babies can be raised by armies of nannies and other personnel trained in optimizing their learning. These TechBabies will be suited for a world in which they have to compete with arificial intelligence and be (as their fathers intended it) the leaders of civilization.
The murky ethics and eugenics of this version of future babies are the direct result of the misogyny that led to the emergence of the Tech Bro as main character in 2025 in the first place. What better iteration of techno-capitalism gone wild than one in which women- which they once considered necessary for childbearing and rearing are reduced to contracted parties that provide eggs or wombs or nannying services only. Indeed what better revenge against women who refuse to have sex with men or be subservient to them or demand alimony and fight for custody than to sideline them altogether in the creation and maintenance of the next generation.
So where Christian Pronatalism simply wanted to reduce women to tradwives and perpetually pregnant mothers, Silicon Valley Pronatalism then will center essentially on the marginalization of mothers. Women’s roles will be reduced in the Musk-esque tradition to transactional providers of limited services-the egg-donor, the surrogate carrier, the wet nurse, the nanny and so on. Full rights to the TechBaby will thus always reside in the father-the all powerful Tech-bro who can order and engineer the perfect progeny. And as Silicon Valley commands the greatest fortunes in the world-so too would it be able to produce the genetically superior stock of the next generation-designed to be a dominant superbreed. For all their current romance with the Christian right and its bumbling efforts at the Christianizing of the world through a massive proliferation of babies-the possibility of the perfect techbaby is likely to prove too delectable for Silicon Valley to resist. Ultimately, the TechBro will create and proliferate the TechBaby.
